Chengdu Medical College

Chengdu Medical College is located in the north of the provincial capital city, Chengdu. The college, founded in the Liberation War, was detached in August, 2004 from the Third Military Medical University in accordance with the joint decision of the State Council and the Military Commission of the Central Committee of CPC as an independent undergraduate college.

The college consists of seven schools, offering undergraduate and 3-year programs in 8 majors, including clinical medicine, nursing, pharmacology, lab studies, medical imaging, bio-technology, pharmaceutical analysis and applied psychology. It currently has an enrollment of 5,000 students.

Chengdu Medical College abounds in talents and intellectuals, 36% of its faculty have master or doctor degree, and 120 of its faculty members have high ranking technical titles.

The college library has a storage of more than 330,000 volumes, and E-reading-rooms with more than 17,000 electronic periodicals in both Chinese and foreign languages. Most of the multi-media classrooms are well-equipped and labs largely computerized. All of the above facilities are connected to the campus network, including students' dormitories. Over 10 million RMB Yuan is annually invested in lab construction, resulting in advanced and modern labs with interactive system of digital microscopes, such as morphology labs, function labs, anatomy labs and applied psychology labs. The college has 2 affiliated hospitals and 54 teaching hospitals. The First Affiliated Hospital with 800 beds was accredited as a 3-A hospital in 1997. It is sophisticatedly equipped with various advanced apparatus imported from Germany, the United States, Japan and other foreign countries, including 9 centers with spectacular characteristics: intervention treatment center, pacemaker center, chest surgery center, first-aid center, pediatrics center, infectious disease prevention center, rehabilitation center and radiotherapy center. The hospital has been focusing on the innovation of new techniques, has successfully performed the operations of transplantation of kidney and liver, and was awarded "Hospital with Credit" in September 2005.

Chengdu Medical College plans its overall development in light of scientific developmental perspective ― pursuing development in reforms, making progress through innovation ― and bends upon turning itself into a "provincially first-rate, nationally well-known, distinctively characterized" medical college on the basis of speeding up development, raising quality, strengthening content construction, improving research work and consolidating faculty building. The college has implemented teaching in bilingual and multi-media way, strengthened students' practical skills, stuck to the principle of training students in an all-around way--- morally, intellectually and physically, and made great efforts to develop a good campus spirit and academic style. It has established a close partnership with universities home and abroad. A new campus in Xindu district, with an area of 187 acres and a construction area of 330,950 m2, is expected to be accomplished by the end of 2008.

The First Party Congress of Chengdu Medical College in July 2005 brought forward the eleventh 5-year plan and the blueprint of the college: building it into a "provincially first-rate, nationally well-known" college within 2020. We are therefore to stick to our motto: pursuing development in reforms, making progress through innovation and trying to realize the blueprint and the eleventh 5-year plan as soon as possible.
