With a building area of 804,000 square meters, the university occupies 200 hectares with two campuses, of which the new campus of Lake Qian occupies 150 hectares. There are 25 scientific research sectors and 7 research centers of provincial level (the non-destruction detecting lab being the key lab of the National Education Bureau),with more than 17,000 sets of scientific equipments.In the library there is a volume of 1.084 million books, 500,000 disks of electronic books and over 2200 kinds of periodicals in Chinese or in English.
At present, the university has a registered enrollment of 25,000 students, including 17,569 full-time undergraduates and 710 full-time graduates. It has a total of 1,200 professional teachers, including 186 professors, 215 associate professors and 3 academicians. 24 of them are entitled to the special allowance granted by the government. 21 of them are the leaders in their respective field of learning. Since its foundation it has cultivated over 50,000 graduates.
The university consists of 20 schools. Altogether there are 42 specialties for bachelor's degree, Altogether there are 17 specialties of engineering, 6 specialties of management, 7 specialties of arts, 7 specialties of science,1 specialty of law and 2 specialties of education.Moreover, NCHU has been entitled to confer master’s degree in the following specialties: Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Testing & Measuring Technology and Instrument, Material Science, Material Processing Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Detecting Technology and Automatic Device, Applied Computer Science, Optical Engineering, etc.
What’s more, 10 subjects in the university have been granted the title of the provincial key subjects; 13 subjects are the provincial "brand "subjects; one subject is the key subject of National Defense Science Industry Commission. In addition, it is authorized to confer maser's degree of engineering and master's degree to graduates with the same educational level basis. Now it is making joint effort with Nanjing Aeronautical University to cultivate students enrolled for doctor's degree.
In recent years, more than 400 research subjects of all kinds have been undertaken, among which 15 subjects were awarded national prizes, more than 40 obtained the national patent and over 60 were awarded prizes of provincial level.
Guided by such philosophy of refreshing educational concept, centering teaching, focusing on students and basing on talented people, the University deepens the reform of the teaching mode, management mode and practical capability to further improve the quality of teaching, the level of scientific research and the expertise of social services. Being open to the outside world, the University has developed cooperative relationships with University Paris X Nanterre La Defense in France, University of Waterloo in Canada, Latrobe University and Northern Melbourne Technical Institute in Australia, Fukui University in Japan, National Aviation University and Dniepropetrovsk National University in Ukraine, Hankuk Aviation University in Korea, etc. It also invites foreign teachers and experts to teach, lecture and conduct research in the institute throughout the year.
