Since its establishment SI has been exploring possible innovations in its operation and giving priority to constantly improving the quality of its teaching and management, which has been based upon modern college educational ideology and aimed at meeting social needs, thus gaining a possession of distinctive SI flavor. It is making constant progress in such aspects as its scale, quality, structure, and social and economic returns.
A total of 250 million yuan has been spent in building the Software Campus, which covers 350,000 square meters and has a construction area of 86,000 square meters. The students currently studying in the campus total to 5,600 and its planned size of enrollment is 8,000.
There are ten teaching and research offices: software study office, computer networking office, computer basics office, software development and testing office, software engineering and project management office, computer games designing office, e-commerce and e-administration office, embedded system office, biotechnology study office, and foreign language office; there are eight administrative sectors: academic affairs division, students affairs division, administration division, financial affairs division, logistics division, scientific research division, graduate division, and external affairs and employment instruction division; there are CWN center, networking center, and IBM technology center.
SI has over one hundred and sixty staff members, including five professors and twenty-seven associate professors, among whom six people have acquired a Ph. D. degree and two are authorized to act as Ph. D. advisers. Like any other college of its kind, SI is well equipped, which has laid the basic technological foundation for teaching and training of IT professionals.
The second phase construction under way covers 78,000 square meters and has a construction area of 61,000 square meters, consisting of 29,000㎡ classroom building, 22,000㎡ library and 10,000 ㎡administrative building.
The campus is located at the southwestern end of the software industry belt on South Lushun Road, and not far from the juncture of Yellow Sea and Bo Sea of the southern end of Liaodong Peninsula where the beautiful Moon Bay lies. Being situated at the foot of a mountain and beside a sea, with trees setting off one another and World Peace Park as its neighbor, its architecture is tremendous and imposing with a combination of Chinese and Western flavors. Furthermore, the campus is said to be elegant and grand, accompanied with a rich atmosphere of human culture and science. These well-merged elements makes SI a unique place for learning, teaching, and scientific research and development.
The new-born SI, with the DJTU motto “pursuing with persistence”, and DJTU’s experiences in running the university, will exert its utmost to be innovative and keep abreast of the times, and will make as possibly great contribution in cultivating appropriate personnel as it can to China’s information industry, the revival of the old Northeast industrial bases, and the development of Digital Super-Dalian.
