For its great achievements in education and research, the university, as a national key university, has successfully passed the prejudication conducted by all the authorized organizations of different levels for a government-launched "211 Project", and has been selected as one of the first institutions implementing the project by China State Educational Ministry. It has also be selected by the Government as one of the top universities to implement "985" project.
The university has 4 faculties, 5 departments, 3 schools and 1 research center, offering 25 bachelor's, 99 master's and 32 Ph.D. programs and one diploma program in Chinese language study. It has 13 research institutes, 31 research groups, 30 laboratories, 5 centers, and 2 national key laboratories.
Among a staff body of 1200, 196 are full professors and 211 associate professors. The number of the registered degree students comes up to 11000, including 637 Ph.D. students, 3805 M. Eng. / M.Sc. /M.A. students and 6610 B.Eng./B.Sc./B.A. students, and about 4000 students take continuing educational programs each year. At present, the university has 420 international students.
The university Library has a collection of 740,000 bound volumes, 310,000 electronic books, 83 journals in foreign languages and 980 journals in Chinese, covering the whole range of the subjects studied at Beijing Campus. It provides excellent services, including on-line service for literature search, to every reader.
The university has adequate computer facilities of over 7000 and all computer rooms on the campus with internet access are open to all students.
A comprehensive accommodation service is available to all students throughout their whole stay at the university and the university is able to offer a guarantee that it will find satisfying university accommodation for every student.
The student and staff health service is based on the University Health Center. Every student and staff member can request an appointment for personal and private consultation for any health problem.
The university Sports Center is the main campus recreation center. Facilities include 3 athletic grounds, a multi-purpose pavilion, a swimming pool and 2 gymnasiums.
