
I. Required Courses
1. Listening & Speaking Course: 20 periods per week
Strengthen the specific skill training of “listening” and “speaking” to improve the comprehension of listening and speaking.
2. Grammar Course: 5 periods per week
Specific grammar training for students which includes Chinese basic grammar structure as the content.
As required courses, there are 4 periods AM /day, 1 period PM/day, 5 studying days/week, 25 periods/week

Introduction of 《留学在交大》(Junior): This book introduces the daily life in Xi’an of several foreign students. There are lots of conversation situations such as: Self-introduction, home, shopping, dinner, study, sports, traveling, hospital, party, farewell etc. This book strengthens on training the skill of listening and speaking, and also full of local characteristic of Xi’an which is suitable for junior foreign students.
II.Elective
1. Handwriting: 8 periods
Teach the knowledge and skills of handwriting; improve the abilities of students to appreciate Chinese handwriting.
2. Serial courses of Chinese culture: 8 periods
Introduce Chinese civilization over 5,000 years and abundant colorful Chinese culture.
3. Shadowboxing: 16 periods
Teach a full set of shadowboxing; expand the traditional culture of China.
All electives will be set up in the afternoon. According to their demands, the students can feel free to choose anyone of them above.
III.Teaching practice of language cultural
Xian Jiaotong University locates in Xian which is Called Chang'an in ancient times. Xian is one of the birthplaces of the ancient civilization in the Yellow River Basin area of the country. Xian was the beginning of the ancient Silk Road. During Xian's 3,000 year development, 12 Dynasties placed their capitals here, leaving behind a great deal of relics and sites.
1. East: In the east of Xian, the museum of Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses is praised as 'the eighth major miracle of the world'. The Huaqing pool, which is the place Yang Guifei bathing in, is famous for hot spring. Banpo Village Remains is from the Neolithic Age, 6,000 years ago.
2. West: In the west, the Famen Temple holds the finger bones of Sakyamuni. Qianling is a tomb which buried Lizhi (Emperor Gao Zong) and empress WuZetian together. The Xianyang museum collects the terra cotta warrior of Han Dynasty and ancient construction of Qin Dynasty.
3. Incity: In the city, the Shanxi history museum is a showcase of ancient civilizations. The Forest of Stone Steles built in Song Dynasty that holds 3,000 stone steles of different periods. The City Wall of the Ming Dynasty is the largest and most intact Ming Dynasty castle in the world. Xian also has too many famous places such as Dayan Tower, mosque…etc. Silk Road, the most famous trade routes linking the economy and trade between China and Western country from Western Han Dynasty, the beginning of the road is in west suburb of Xian.
In the weekend, we will organize the students to do the practice mentioned above (Total 3 times in 3 days). Visit the east line, the west line and city respectively. In the process of it, make sure the students can understand multiracial brilliant history culture in China; improve their communication skills in Chinese.
IV.Purpose
After one month studying, a student can get the basic skills such as Chinese speech, dialect, simple phrasing and sentence construction, 400 common words. He can also use some basic words to talk with Chinese.
