I．Required courses:
1. Intensive reading: 10 periods per week
The purpose of intensive reading courses is to practice skills of the reading and writing synthetically. This course includes Chinese Bopomofo, Chinese basic phrasing and sentence construction, short composition etc. It is a foundation to improve every skill.
2. Oral: 6 periods per week
Set the special training about “talking” for students. Pay attention to train the abilities of using Chinese to communicate, in order to talk with Chinese fluently in a shot time.
3．Listening: 4 periods per week?
Set the special training about “listening” for students. Make the students be able to acquaint with the Chinese expression method as soon as possible, provide the assurance for the fluency communication.
There are 4 lessons in every A.M. and 5 days in a week, so 20 lessons per week..
Now, in one term class, we choose “Reading and writing” (Beijing Language & Culture University press) as the books of Intensive reading course, and the kits
of the books will be use for listening books. “Conversational Chinese 301 “(Beijing Language & Culture University press) are the books of Oral course. The one term class will be lasted for 5 months.
II．Elective
1. Orthoepy: 12 periods
Aim at the characteristics of students from different countries; rectify their pronunciation and dialect, make sure the students can speak pure Chinese.
2. Writing: 12 periods
Teach the characteristics of writing; improve students’ abilities of writing.
3. Handwriting: 8 -12 periods
Teach the knowledge and skills of handwriting; improve the abilities of students to appreciate Chinese handwriting.
4. History cultural courses: 4-8 periods
According to the important history events, introduce the Chinese civilization over 5,000 years. Introduce the culture of Confucianism and Taoism.
5. Shadowboxing: 16 periods
Teach a full set of shadowboxing; expand the traditional culture of China.
6. Chinese cooking 12-16 periods
Introduce the Chinese food culture, make sure the students know the cooking characteristics of the different area in china and the Chinese cooking skills by practice.
7. paper-cut: 4 periods
Introduce the Chinese civilian art, enjoy the excellent paper-cut. Teach the students the easy technique of paper-cut
8. Chinese music: 4 periods
Introduce Chinese traditional music, study to sing Chinese songs, in order to be familiar with the Chinese culture.
All electives will be set up in the afternoon. According to their demands, the students can feel free to choose anyone of them above.
III．Teaching practice of language cultural
Xian Jiaotong University locates in Xian which is Called Chang'an in ancient times. Xian is one of the birthplaces of the ancient civilization in the Yellow River Basin area of the country. Xian was the beginning of the ancient Silk Road. During Xian's 3,000 year development, 12 Dynasties placed their capitals here, leaving behind a great deal of relics and sites.
1. East: In the east of Xian, the museum of Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses is praised as 'the eighth major miracle of the world'. The Huaqing pool, which is the place Yang Guifei bathing in, is famous for hot spring. Banpo Village Remains is from the Neolithic Age, 6,000 years ago.
2. West: In the west, the Famen Temple holds the finger bones of Sakyamuni. Qianling is a tomb which buried Lizhi (Emperor Gao Zong) and empress WuZetian together. The Xianyang museum collects the terra cotta warrior of Han Dynasty and ancient construction of Qin Dynasty.
3. Incity: In the city, the Shanxi history museum is a showcase of ancient civilizations. The Forest of Stone Steles built in Song Dynasty that holds 3,000 stone steles of different periods. The City Wall of the Ming Dynasty is the largest and most intact Ming Dynasty castle in the world. Xian also has too many famous places such as Dayan Tower, mosque…etc. Silk Road, the most famous trade routes linking the economy and trade between China and Western country from Western Han Dynasty, the beginning of the road is in west suburb of Xian.
4. North: In the north, the Hukou waterfall of the yellow river is the only yellow waterfall on earth.
5. Huashan: Huashan is one of the five best-known mountains in China, is famous for its breath-taking cliffs and its unique characteristics. She is 120 km away from Xian.
We will organize the students to do the practice mentioned above (Total 4-5 times in 4-5 days). Visit the east line, the west line, the north line, Huashan and city respectively. In the process of it, make sure the students can understand multiracial brilliant history culture in China; improve their communication skills in Chinese.
IV．Purpose
After five months studying, a student can be familiar with basic knowledge of the Chinese characters structure, common compound sentence and 1500 common words. He can also read and understand short articles quickly, be able to write easy articles, have basic communication skills to talk with Chinese. If someone word hard, he can pass the test of HSK-level3.
