SCU - Admission to Graduate Programs



1. Introduction
At Sichuan University there are 37 key disciplines at the national level, 66 key disciplines at the provincial level, 27 first class Ph.D. disciplines as well as 213 other P.h.D. disciplines, 330 Master’s Degree disciplines, 8 specialized degree programs

2. Qualification of Applicants
(1) Applicants for Master programs should have a Bachelor degree or equivalent academic background.
(2) Applicants for Doctoral programs should have a Master degree or equivalent academic background.
(3) Language skills requirements:
(Applicants should pass Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) band 6 4.
For applicants who do not have adequate Chinese language skills but meet academic requirements of admission, intensive Chinese training courses are required in the first one or two semesters to help them pass HSK test.
For Doctoral Program applicants: If the English level is sufficient, the Chinese language requirement could be adjusted for some majors.

3. Materials for Application
(1) The completed Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China
of Sichuan University
(2) The original or the notarized photocopies of degree certificate or proof of education in academic institution, and academic transcript (original and duplicated)
(3) HSK certificate and score report (unless a waiver is approved)
(4) Two academic recommendation letters from scholars of associate professorship or higher
(5) Two copies of applicant's recent photo (cap-free, 2 inches)
(6) Two copies of the page with personal information in the passport (ordinary passport)
The application fee is RMB 600 (non-refundable).
The certificates provided should be the original documents in Chinese or in English, otherwise notarized translations in Chinese or English are required.

4. Application Procedure
Step 1: Download Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China form the website ( ). Complete it, print and sign two hard copies of the Application Form .
Step 2: Submit the application materials listed above to Foreign Student Affairs Office, Sichuan University, by post mail or in person.

5. Inquiry and Admission Notice
The applicants will be admitted after meeting the requirements. Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202/JW201).

6. Visa Application and Admission Registration
The admitted students should bring their Passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202/ JW201), and original copy of Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners as well as other original documents of physical examination to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X visa). Students shall come to Foreign Student Affairs Office, Sichuan University for admission registration before the deadline indicated on the Admission Notice. The X visa holders must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days after arriving in China.
